Material Section: Hips

HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) is a biodegradable filament that is commonly used in the food industry for packaging, another common use for HIPS is to be used as a secondary material when dual extruding as it provides soluble supports that dissolve when it comes in contact with a liquid hydrocarbon. HIPS has a melting point of 210 degrees to 250 degrees however 225 degrees is normally a stable temperature to print with. Below are some key points when printing with HIPS.

  • Soluble support when used with dual extrusion
  • Not very flexible
  • Very durable
  • Soluble
  • Heated bed required
