Material Section: Laywood

Laywood is an additive manufacturing material that enables the ability to have the texture and look of wood, there are many different types of Laywood which create different looks and feels, for example an Oak Effect Is made by the mixing of PLA and Oak wood fibers to create the Laywood material. However, the enhanced texture and look of the material takes away the strength and flexibility significantly. Laywood has a melting point of 195 degrees to 220 degrees however 210 degrees is normally a stable temperature to print with. Below are some key points when printing with Laywood.

  • Wood like finish/texture
  • Lightweight
  • Not very durable
  • Non soluble
  • Heated bed required
