Material Section: PVA

PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) is a biodegradable additive manufacturing filament which is used as a soluble support. The process works by dual extruding and using the PVA as a secondary material to print the supports required for overhangs. Once the supports have been printed the object can then be placed in water to dissolve the PVA and leave a clean finish. PVA has a melting point of 180 degrees to 230 degrees however 215 degrees is normally a stable temperature to print with. Below are some key points when printing with PVA.

  • Soluble support when used with dual extrusion
  • Not very flexible
  • Very durable
  • Soluble
  • Heated bed required
